Staff Guide

Investigations

Investigations are private case files for sensitive moderation work. They include a Discord-style chat channel for coordination and a Conclude & Punish workflow that creates classified records automatically.

Required capability

investigations.view to see the list. investigations.create to open new cases. investigations.bypass to see classified content from any investigation. Org admins have all three implicitly.

What is an investigation?#

An investigation is a private workspace used when a moderation matter is sensitive — appeals, admin misconduct, complex rule-break evidence reviews, or any situation where the reason and evidence should not be visible to the broader staff team.

Investigations have their own chat channel, a named subject (the player being investigated), a list of staff participants, and a conclusion state.

Creating an investigation#

Click Investigations in the sidebar and then New Investigation. Fill in:

  • Subject — the Roblox player this investigation concerns.
  • Title — a short name for the case.
  • Description — any initial context or evidence summary.

You are automatically added as a participant. Other staff can be added at any time.

Adding staff to a case#

Inside an investigation, use the Add Staff button to invite other members of your org. Only added participants can view the investigation, its messages, and any classified punishments linked to it.

Investigation chat#

Each investigation has a chat panel similar to a private messaging thread. All participants can post messages, share evidence links, and coordinate in real time. Messages are persisted and visible to participants indefinitely.

You can attach files directly in the chat or paste screenshot links as evidence.

Conclude & Punish#

When the investigation is resolved, click Conclude. This opens the conclusion form where you can issue one or more moderation actions against the subject — ban, warn, toolban, chatban, etc. — with a classified reason.

Punishments created through Conclude & Punish are automatically marked as classified and linked to the investigation. On the player profile, staff who are not investigation participants see a redacted record (the reason and attachments are hidden). Org admins and investigations.bypass holders see the full reason.

Cannot un-conclude

Concluding an investigation is permanent. You can still add more punishments or messages afterwards, but the concluded state cannot be reversed. Make sure decisions are final before clicking Conclude.

Viewing investigation history#

The Investigations list page shows all cases you are a participant in, along with their status (Open / Concluded) and subject name. Org admins see all investigations across the org, not just ones they are in.

Concluded investigations remain fully readable — the chat history and all linked punishments are preserved for reference.

Classified vs. visible#

The classification system works like this:

  • Punishments from Conclude & Punish are always classified.
  • Manual bans/warns can also be marked classified via the checkbox in the moderation form.
  • On the player profile, classified records show a redacted reason to staff without access.
  • Staff added to the linked investigation see the full reason.
  • Org admins and investigations.bypass holders always see everything.
